Most often it is used to substitute your real IP address. An example of when this is needed: watching shows on Netflix that are only available to US users. A proxy can be used to make a user logging in from anywhere in the world will be identified by the IP address as a US user. Another option is to test your site through a local web server. A proxy in this case is used to intercept all the traffic in order to analyze it further for errors and failures.

This is a proxy server integrated into the app to redirect traffic. It allows you to protect yourself from being tracked or to use the program where it is blocked. For example, at one time, users used a proxy server to bypass Telegram blocking.

However, there are alternative approaches and bindings that allow you to use Selenium with C++. Here are a couple of options:

1. CppDriver:

   • CppDriver is a C++ implementation of the WebDriver protocol that allows you to interact with web browsers. It is not an official Selenium project but provides a way to use Selenium-like functionality in C++.

2. WebDriver C++ Client Library (Unofficial):

   • There are unofficial C++ bindings or client libraries developed by the community. These libraries may provide a way to interact with WebDriver or Selenium-like functionality in C++. However, their usage and features may vary.

   Note: Unofficial bindings might not be as comprehensive or up-to-date as official Selenium bindings.

3. Use Selenium with C++ via External Libraries:

   • Another approach is to use C++ along with external libraries that can control browsers. For example, you might use C++ to control a headless browser like Chromium or automate interactions using browser automation libraries.

   Keep in mind that this approach may not provide the same level of abstraction and cross-browser compatibility as Selenium WebDriver.

Before choosing any of these options, carefully review the documentation, community support, and compatibility with your specific requirements. Since these projects are not officially supported by the Selenium project, they may have limitations and may not be as stable or feature-rich as Selenium WebDriver in other languages.

There are HTTP proxy, FTP proxy, SOCKS proxy, SMTP proxy, CGI proxy. They differ only in the data transmission protocol used and the purpose for which they are used. For example, SMTP proxy allows you to organize a secure server for e-mail.

If your proxy gives you a 504 error, it means the server failed to complete the request within the time period you specified. Refreshing the page may help. Another option is to switch to another browser. You can also use the incognito mode, pre-clearing the browser cache. Pay attention to plug-ins that can also cause this error.
